With the spike in COVID-19 cases, LSCU has made the difficult decision to move our annual Fall Hike the Hill back to a completely virtual setting. Although this is not an ideal situation, it is still imperative that credit unions meet with their members of Congress to advocate for issues that are important to the credit union industry.

The Advocacy Team will be arranging meetings with all six Senators and key members of Congress (committee chairs/ranking members, Financial Services committee members, and key credit union advocates). Below you will find a list of meetings, registration information, and resources to facilitate smooth and productive virtual meetings.

Because Hike the Hill is completely virtual with no cost involved, please consider a contribution to LSCU FedPAC to aid in our advocacy efforts.

How do I participate in Virtual Hike the Hill this year?
A major benefit to our virtual event is the ability to include as many advocates as possible in the lawmaker meetings, not just a select few. Find your pertinent meetings ahead of time on LSCU’s Hike the Hill 2021 page, under the dropdown menus. To register, simply click on "Register Here" next to the meeting you would like to attend. You will receive an email confirmation with the meeting link after registration is complete.

Is zoom etiquette different for Hike the Hill than for other zoom meetings?
Like any meeting with an elected official, these virtual meetings are an opportunity to inform lawmakers of issues that affect credit unions. Since they are official business meetings, we ask that everyone dress for a meeting on Capitol Hill and turn on your camera! We will also engage the “raise your hand” function for those who have questions.

What is the format for these meetings?
Our general layout begins with our LSCU moderator introducing the lawmaker to those on the call. Then the lawmaker will take some time to speak to the group. Afterwards, we will move into a question and answer and informative discussion. Please refer to your brief (coming soon) for information about our legislative issues and potential matters for discussion. We expect the meetings to last between 30 and 45 minutes. At the end of each meeting, we will take a photo of all our participants for social media and newsletter purposes, so make sure to smile!
