  HEALTH CENTER CREDIT UNION
AUGUSTA, EVANS
A Health Center Credit Union representative recalls the day a member came into the office looking defeated. A single father caring for his special needs child, he was desperate to renovate his bathroom and install a handicap accessible bathtub for his son. He needed $10,000, but his credit was poor and he didn’t think he could afford another loan. His high interest credit cards were maxed out and he and his son were living paycheck to paycheck.
He did, however, own his home and the credit union realized an opportunity. They helped him open a home equity line of credit to consolidate his credit card debt AND get the bathroom renovation. Not only that, but he was able to pay his debt off 16 months quicker, save over $6,000 in interest, reduce his monthly debt payments from $655 to $200 AND buy the medical tub his son needed.
As the rep walked him through his plan, he started to cry. Tears of joy, no doubt. He had walked in feeling helpless, but he was leaving with a renewed sense of hope knowing he could tell his son the bathtub was going to happen.
